Behind the Scenes: How I pack an Etsy Order

I’ve been a small, artisan business officially for 4 years now! Over the last 3 years of selling online consistently I’ve learned (through trial and error) how to streamline my shipping/packing process for my glass artwares.

You can shop my hand painted suncatchers here.

For me, streamlining means standardization of my packing and shipping. For example, I always pack my suncatchers in a gift box, with my business card, a ribbon, wrapped in bubble wrap or Ranpak, with a short handwritten note to the customer on their receipt and then placed into a mailing box.

Standardization helps me:

  • Order all shipping supplies in bulk for reduced cost

  • Know the shipping costs for each item since they are consistent in size and weight

  • Reduces stress by simplifying packing materials that I need to stock

  • Ensures my Art is protected during shipping

  • Presents a consistent customer experience and expectation knowing they will always receive beautifully hand painted glass ware, thoughtfully and safely packaged, ready to gift or treat themselves.

Reducing my Carbon Footprint:

This year one of my small business goals is to reduce my carbon foot print. One of the ways I am doing this is by replacing most of my bubble wrap use with Ranpak.  Some packages may require the use of bubble wrap to ensure no breakage during shipping; in these instance I use repurposed bubble wrap from packages I have received.

Details Matter!

You can elevate and have personal touches to your products/artwork by including a hand written note or adding decorative ribbon.  These small touches go a long way in establishing a personal connection with your customers.

Materials I use:

Ranpak -sustainable bubble wrap alternative and works just as great as bubble wrap! -Staples

Gift Box - Uline

Business Card - Uprinting

Ribbon- Blick Art Materials

Shipping Box -Staples

XPS for my shipping services
